May 20th is Global Accessibility Awareness Day

What is Global Accessibility Awareness Day

“The one argument for accessibility that doesn’t get made nearly often enough is how extraordinarily better it makes some people’s lives. How many opportunities do we have to dramatically improve people’s lives just by doing our job a little better?”  ― Steve Krug

Thursday, May 20, 2021, help us celebrate the tenth Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD)! The purpose of GAAD is to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access and inclusion, and the more than One Billion people with disabilities/impairments.  For more information visit https://globalaccessibilityawarenessday.org

At Dufferin Media and Dufferin Media Cares we are hosting an Accessibility Challenge! We are encouraging all small businesses and organizations to participate in GAAD by doing one thing on May 20th that makes them MORE accessible.  This can be either online or offline.  The goal is to raise awareness and take action!

Examples of ways that you might make your business more accessible:

  • Add ALT Text to all images on your website
  • Create a video that includes captions and a transcript
  • Use "camel case" when using hashtags on your social media posts i.e. "GlobalAccessibilityAwarenessDay"

How to Participate in the Accessibility Challenge

If you would like to participate it's easy!  On May 20th share a post to your social media and tag any of our social media accounts and use hashtags:

#AccessForAll #GAAD #AccessibilityChallenge

We are giving away 2 prizes of $100 each to 2 businesses or organizations that participate.  Draw will be held randomly on May 21st.
